Overview

Advanced Gynecology, a practice partner of Together Women's Health, is seeking a full-time Certified Surgical First Assistant.

 

The Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) is a vital member of the surgical team who works under the direct supervision of a surgeon to ensure safe and efficient surgical procedures. The CSFA provides expert assistance during operative procedures by maintaining visibility of the surgical site, controlling bleeding, closing wounds, and performing other critical functions. This role combines clinical expertise with surgical proficiency, contributing significantly to optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the surgeon during operative procedures by anticipating needs and providing appropriate instruments and supplies.
  • Performs tasks such as tissue retraction, hemostasis, suturing, stapling, and wound closure under the direction of the surgeon.
  • Prepares and positions the patient for surgery and ensures proper aseptic techniques are followed at all times.
  • Applies dressings and supports the post-operative care of patients as directed.
  • Ensures surgical instruments and equipment are correctly maintained, cleaned, and sterilized before and after procedures.
  • Collaborates closely with surgical team members including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and technologists.
  • Provides clear and effective communication with all members of the surgical team before, during, and after procedures.
  • Participates in preoperative planning, including review of surgical procedures, and contributes to patient safety initiatives.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation of surgical procedures, including sponge, instrument, and needle counts.
  • Stays current on best practices, techniques, and continuing education relevant to surgical assisting.

Qualifications

  • Current certification as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical First Assistant program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • 1–2 years of experience as a Surgical First Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
