Overview

Advanced Gynecology, a practice partner of Together Women's Health is seeking a Contingent Sterile Processing Technician

The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, inspection, assembly, and distribution of surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies used throughout the healthcare facility. The SPT plays a critical role in infection control and patient safety by ensuring all items processed meet established standards for cleanliness and sterility.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, sorts, and decontaminates surgical instruments, trays, and medical equipment using approved methods.
  • Operates and maintains sterilization equipment such as steam autoclaves, low-temperature sterilizers, and ultrasonic cleaners.
  • Assembles instrument trays and sets according to procedure-specific checklists and standards.
  • Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
  • Properly labels, packages, and stores sterile supplies in designated areas.
  • Monitors sterilization cycles, including biological and chemical indicators, and documents results accurately.
  • Follows infection control protocols, hospital policies, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., AAMI, AORN, CDC).
  • Maintains accurate inventory of sterile supplies and reports damaged or missing items.
  • Collaborates with the operating room, nursing units, and other departments to ensure timely delivery and availability of sterile items.
  • Participates in ongoing education and training related to sterile processing and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of sterilization principles and aseptic techniques.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift/carry heavy instrument trays (up to 50 lbs).
  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through IAHCSMM or CSPDT through CBSPD.
  • Completion of a Sterile Processing Technician training program.
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in a sterile processing or healthcare environment.
