Overview

Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN), a practice partner of Together Women's Health is seeking a PRN Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN).

 

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for providing safe, effective, and high-quality care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. The OR RN functions as a key member of the perioperative team, serving in circulating and/or scrub roles, and collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Preoperative Duties:
    • Conducts patient assessments and verifies surgical consent, site, and preoperative preparation.
    • Reviews patient history, allergies, and medication lists prior to surgery.
    • Prepares the OR with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Intraoperative Duties:
    • Serves as a circulating or scrub nurse during surgical procedures.
    • Maintains a sterile environment and enforces infection control standards.
    • Anticipates the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth workflow.
    • Monitors patient status, including vital signs, anesthesia response, and safety.
    • Performs accurate counts of sponges, instruments, and sharps.
  • Postoperative Duties:
    • Assists with patient transfer to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
    • Provides detailed hand-off communication to recovery nurses.
    • Documents all intraoperative care and observations thoroughly in the medical record.
  • General Responsibilities:
    • Participates in continuing education and professional development.
    • Maintains current knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and best practices.
    • Adheres to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
    • Responds promptly and effectively to emergency situations.

Qualifications

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of GA.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • 1+ year experience in an acute care OR setting.
